The basics: The 66,000-square-foot, two-story Porsche dealership in Davie, Florida, is one of the largest of its kind. When building a dealership, Porsche provides criteria for how the overall space should function, specific design elements and approved products. FSMY Architects worked with the owner, Penske Automotive Group, to meet these criteria.
“The new Porsche look incorporates a curved design that houses the main showroom,” says Nathalie Bailey, senior project manager with FSMY Architects.
The players: Architect, FSMY Architects; general contractor, Auto Builders General Contracting Services; contract glazier, impact system fabricator and supplier, Faour Glass Technologies; glass supplier, GNT Glass Co.
The glass and systems: Penske Automotive Group’s newest Porsche dealership in South Florida features Faour Glass Technologies' Slimpact impact frameless windows, which offer a contemporary, seamless and unobtrusive view. Slimpact is an approved product with Porsche and has been used and specified on multiple dealerships in Florida.
A frameless impact window system, Slimpact uses no exposed metal in order to maximize the view. According to Faour, the glass appears to float in place while still meeting Florida’s large missile impact requirements. Low-emissivity coatings, films and tints are available to control glare, visible light and heat gain.
“We selected Slimpact because it gave us some distinct design options and Faour Glass was very supportive in helping us come up with some alternate design solutions for the glazing that helped create the look we were striving to achieve,” says Bailey.
